Condé Nast Traveler: Readers’ Choice Awards Maui #1 spot for Top Island and Top Hawaiian Resort

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Maui was recently named by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine readers as the #1 Pacific island to visit. It is often rated the best island in the world for many reasons – most beautiful island, best beaches for snorkeling, best for diving, surfing and whale-watching. Not to mention, it is the best island for a honeymoon.

The Maui Mana Kai is on the south end of the island and is the perfect spot to take in everything Maui has to offer. It is right on the beach with ocean views and just minutes from just about anything you may want to do. The Four Seasons Maui, which was named the #1 Hawaiian resort by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine - Readers Choice Awards is located just 5 minutes from the Mana Kai. Their spa, golf course and dining facilities are open to anyone.

The spa offers traditional Hawaiian, master Thai, craniosacral and ayurvedic massage therapists to relax you and offer a body-pampering experience. You can even indulg in an oceanside massage! They are open every day from 6:00am – 9:00pm.

The dining facilities are spectacular. Ferraro’s Bar e Ristorante is the perfect place on Maui to enjoy an outdoor lunch. The beachfront setting and open-air design takes full advantage of the warm, sunny weather. The lunch menu is casual fare, but in the evening authentic Italian dishes and seafood are offered.

Also located at the Four Seasons is Wolf Gang Puck’s world famous Spago. The menu offers the chef’s classics, plus many locally inspired dishes. A special children’s menu is offered as well. This is a Mobile Four Star and AAA Four Diamond Restaurant.

If two restaurants aren’t enough, DUO is a new addition to the Four Seasons and offers a steak and seafood intimate dining experience.

Also just minutes away is the Wailea Gold Course, which is a masterful blend of brawn and beauty. This par-72 course has hosted the LPGA Skins Game and is known as a “thinking player’s” course. It is a course for players seeking a real challenge. It was designed by golf course architect Robert Trent Jones II and features an outstanding layout that measures more than 7,000 yards of naturally undulating terrain showcasing Wailea’s stunning scenery.

All of the above facilities are available to the public as well as the guests of the Four Seasons. However, by staying at the Mana Kai you will pay a fraction of the cost of a Four Star resort and still be able to enjoy many of the amenities located just minutes away. You are also getting the same quality accommodations and great ocean views of all the famous resorts. If you love the four star quality of the Four Seasons but can’t afford the price tag, consider staying with us where you get to enjoy every amenity but without the paying extra change!

All Access: Keawakapu Beach

Actual View of Keawakapu Beach from Our Private Lanai
Actual View of Keawakapu Beach from Our Private Lanai

Keawakapu Beach is a beautiful jewel situated at the southern end of South Maui. The Maui Mana Kai is right on the north end of the beach. This beach is very popular with tourist and locals alike. It is lined with multi-million dollar homes which are unobtrusive and don’t overwhelm the beautiful beach.

This is a perfect beach for swimming, especially in the morning when the water is glassy smooth. The beach itself is only ½ mile long and is divided by an outcropping of lava halfway down the beach which extends out into the water. The sand is super-soft and very fine. A sunny day is practically guaranteed since Keawakapu Beach is located on Maui’s driest coast. It is a great beach for just about any activity. If you enjoy snorkeling, Jogging, walking, and body boarding this is the beach for you. Like a lot of the beaches in South Maui you can walk 20-30 feet out into the ocean. It offers spectacular sunning and swimming.

Keawakapu Beach is very long and super clean. It’s great for romantic walks and picnics and grilling on the sand. It’s very safe and perfect for families. It’s size, silky sand, lack of crowds, and perfect swimming conditions are contributing factors to its being the best beach in South Maui.

When you stay with us, not only will you have a gorgeous view of this amazing beach from your private lanai but also you enjoy direct access to the beach, just a few feet from the condo.

Check out this photo gallery of Keawakapu Beach photos I put together from Flickr. It doesn’t get any better than this!

Winter Vacations in Maui

Monday, October 27th, 2008

If you are researching locations for your next winter vacation, look no further than Maui, Hawaii. Maui is the best choice for escaping the bitter cold of the north but there are many other reasons why visiting Maui during the winter is a great vacation.

Did you know the waves in Maui are much bigger in the winter months than in the summer? The large waves attract the more athletic surfers and many championship surfers to the area. They can be found showing off their talents on any particular day. Some of the largest waves in the world can be found in the Hawaiian islands during the winter.

The whale-watching season is also during the winter months. Whale watching attracts a large number of tourists to Maui each year during this season. The humpback whale, which is on the endangered species list, can be seen simply by taking a leisurely stroll on any beach. Several tour companies offer day trips to great whale watching locations. The shallow waters found here provide protection for the whales against shark attacks.

Maui is a great place to visit any time of the year, which is why it is such a wonderful vacation destination. It has a moderate temperature all year round, which makes it a perfect place to escape the hot summers of the deep south and the frigid winters of the north. The days are fairly long due to the fact that it is in the tropics. An 11 hour day is typical for Maui in the winter months and you can enjoy 13.5 hours of daylight in the summer. You can swim in the warm waters all year long. The lowest the water temperature will get is 73-74 degrees in the months of February and March.

Maui is voted by the locals as having the best beaches of all the islands. It’s the best island for lots of things – snorkeling, diving, surfing, and, of course, whale watching. Maui has everything one could want for a perfect escape from the winter cold and dreary winter months back on the mainland.

A good way to escape the winter blues is to book a vacation to Maui now. Leave the winter woollies behind and pull out the bikinis and come soak up the sun on a Maui beach. Our condo is located directly on the beach in South Kihei, Maui - just a few yards from famous Wailea! Check out our availability & amenities before looking elsewhere to book your Maui vacation!

Holidays in Maui

Monday, October 13th, 2008

There’s nothing quite like Christmas travel, especially if you’re going to Maui. It’s the best Christmas present you could ever give yourself. You can escape the cold weather and relax and enjoy beautiful, sunny beaches and exciting things to do.

“Mele Kalikimaka”, that’s how you’ll be greeted while visiting Maui at Christmas. This is how the Hawaiians say Merry Christmas. You’ll find that even Christmas dinner is a departure from our customary turkey and stuffing. In Maui it usually consists of a backyard luau complete with a pig roasted in an underground pit. What a treat!

Plan to take a short drive to Lahaina while you are in Maui to enjoy the lighting of the historic Banyan Tree with thousands of beautiful colored lights. While there you will see Santa Claus island style. He may even make his appearance in a shiny red outrigger canoe. Also, you will see the World Culture Exchange Hula performances and watch kids play in the real snow at the “snow zone” with the Hawaiian snowman.

Bikinis and Santa hats are a common sight on the beach at Christmas time. You won’t find thick blankets of snow or popsicle temperatures unless you take a trip to the summit of Mauna Kea on the Big Island.

The Norfolk pin, which grows in Hawaii, is the most popular Christmas tree with local residents. Palm trees are frequently decorated, especially in outdoor displays and neighborhood yards. Over 100,000 trees (Douglas fir, Spruce, Silver Tip, etc.) arrive each year right after Thanksgiving on refrigerated ships and by air.

The beautiful red poinsettia flower grows in abundance in Hawaii. Wreaths are made of beautiful bright colored flowers and greenery from the foliage of the macadamia tree.

Christmas is always a little different at the Mana Kai Resort in Maui, but where else can you find so many fun things to do and so much beauty to surround yourself with?

We still have a few dates during the holidays left so book your holiday in Maui today!

Maui Whale Watching Season Fast Approaching

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Our Mana Kai condo is the perfect choice for visiting the island of Maui during the humpback whale watching season. The official season begins mid-December through about mid-April but we are expecting the first sighting any day now. Peak season is usually in February and March. These gentle giants migrate from the Gulf of Alaska to Hawaii each year at this time. Large populations of them are drawn to Hawaii because of the warm, protected water here.

Lahaina Harbor, not far from Mana Kai, offers some of the best whale watching excursions in the world. A wide range of whale watching tours lasting from 2-4 hours are offered. Being up close and witnessing a humpback whale rising from the water and splashing down is a breathtaking experience. It is very addicting. Once you have heard a whale song you will never forget it. A whale song is the most complex song there is. It is different in each part of the world and is constantly evolving. It can be heard underwater for up to 12 miles away. Who would not want to experience these beautiful sights and sounds?

You don’t have to make the trip to Lahaina Harbor to see the whales. You can often see the whales breach, blow, and show off their tails from the shoreline and from the lanai! As you drift off to sleep, you can hear the songs of the whales carried by the breeze. It can’t possibly get any better than this. Get away for winter to the tranquil beauty of our Mana Kai condominium. We still have plenty of dates available during prime humpback whale watching time. So act now to book your winter vacation to Hawaii!
